Andrew Mulholland  (Deputy Secretary and Director of the Secretariat):
Andrew oversees the work of the Secretariat.  He is supported by a management team which comprises Emma Armstrong, Catherine Cho, Eleanor Moore, Adrian Slater and Rebecca Messenger-Clark.

Emma Armstrong (Head of Research Regulatory Compliance):
Emma leads the team responsible for regulatory compliance and quality assurance of clinical research.

Catherine Cho (Head of Governance Support):
Catherine services the University Council and its ad hoc committees, and maintains a watching brief on work conducted to support other central committees. Her work on corporate governance incorporates the University’s Charter, Statutes and Ordinances and other constitutional arrangements (for faculties and schools, for example).

She also manages the team which has responsibility for research ethical review policy and practice, research integrity and quality assurance of clinical research.

Eleanor Moore (Head of Student Cases):
Eleanor leads the team responsible for management of the University’s procedures for student cases (including academic appeals, progression, academic misconduct, discipline and complaints). The team also service the following Committees of Senate (University Special Cases Committee, Committee on Applications), and Committees of Council (University Committee on Student Discipline and University Committee on Health and Conduct).

Adrian Slater (University Solicitor):
Adrian provides the University with in-house legal advice and manages the Legal Adviser’s Office. His specialisms – the detail of which can be found here – include contractual matters and international agreements, data protection, and any legal matters that are not litigation, employment or property-related.  (Please note that the Legal Adviser’s Office does not represent staff or students as individuals.)

Rebecca Messenger-Clark (Head of Records Management and Information Governance - interim):
Rebecca acts as the University’s Data Protection Officer, ensuring compliance with its data protection responsibilities as set out in the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.  She also manage the University’s response to its Freedom of Information obligations and is leading the development of an institution-wide approach to records management.

Laura Britten (Governance Officer):
Laura supports the work of the student cases team.

Maxine Brown (Insurance Officer):
Maxine handles all University insurance-related matters, including enquiries from students and staff.

Daksha Chavda (Secretariat support):
Daksha provides administrative support across the Secretariat.

Alice Cheetham (QA Clinical Trials Monitor):
Alice supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Sou Sit Chung  (Research Ethics Administrator):
Sou is part of the team which oversees research ethics applications.

Caroline Coulsey (Specialist in litigation):
Caroline is a solicitor. In addition to litigation and dispute resolution, Caroline also deals with the legal aspects of Health and Safety and any other contentious areas which do not involve real estate or employment.

Cheryl Cox (Governance and Corporate Affairs Officer):
Cheryl supports the work of the student cases team.

Tracey Crombie (Secretariat support - legal team):
Tracey supports the work of the legal team.

Kirsty Curwen (Assistant Head of Student Cases, Academic Cases):
Kirsty manages the University's procedures for determining and resolving academic cases.

Rachel De Souza (Lead Research Ethics and Governance Administrator):
Rachel is part of the team which oversees research ethics applications.

Catherine Dickson (Interim Research Ethics and Governance Manager):
Catherine leads on research ethics and governance matters, including overseeing the work of the research ethics team.

Katie Engel (Governance Officer):
Katie supports the work of the Student Cases Team.

Alex Evans (Specialist in employment law):
Alex is a solicitor. She advises the University on employment-related policy, procedure and contractual matters, and handling associated legal disputes and claims.

Jenny Foggin (Senior Governance Officer):
Jenny supports the work of the Student Cases Team.

Carly Griffin (Assistant Head of Student Cases, Complaints and Conduct Cases):
Carly manages the University processes for resolution of complaints, disciplinary and fitness to practise.

Taylor Haworth (Research Ethics Administrator):
Taylor is part of the team which oversees research ethics applications.

Joseph Heffernan (Freedom of Information Officer):
Joseph co-ordinates the University’s responses to Freedom of Information requests.

River Hey (Secretariat Support):
River supports the work of the Insurance Officer and provides administrative support across the Secretariat.

Sarah Hills (Governance Officer):
Sarah supports the work of the student cases team.

Georgina Hough (QA Clinical Trials Monitor):
Georgina supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Heather Jefferson (specialist in employment law)
Heather is an employment solicitor with 5 years’ experience and worked as in-house solicitor before joining the University. Heather is experienced in drafting and reviewing a range of documentation including employment contracts, settlement agreements and HR policies and procedures. Heather advises the University and Human Resources on a wide range of issues including termination of employment, avoidance of discrimination claims and advice relating to potential tribunal claims.

Georgia Mallinson (QA Officer):
Georgia supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Anna Morrissey (Student Cases Officer):
Anna supports the work of the student cases team.

Cathy O'Neill (Senior Governance and Corporate Affairs Officer):
Cathy works in the Governance Support team.  She services the the Senate and the University Executive Group. She also provides support and advice on other corporate governance-related matters.

Christina Papathanasiou (Governance Officer):
Christina supports the work of the student cases team.

Helen Pickersgill (Office Manager):
As the longest-serving member of the Secretariat, Helen can help with most enquiries relating to its functions. She supports the practical arrangements for a number of central committees, including the Council, the Nominating and Governance Committee and the Committee on Honorary Degrees. Helen also administers elections to University committees; and circulates a number of formal notices, including obituary notices.

Rachel Prinn (Research Ethics Administrator):
Rachel is part of the team which oversees research ethics applications.

Bryony Radtke (QA Clinical Trials Assistant): Bryony supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Eve Sacre (QA Clinical Trials Monitor):
Eve supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Helena Smith (Company Secretary):
Helena is company secretary for most of the University’s subsidiary and associated companies (further details can be found here).

Elspeth Summerfield (Governance and Corporate Affairs Officer): Elspeth works in the Governance Support team.  She supports the operation and administration of key university committees. Her work also covers other corporate governance-related matters.

Dawn Thompson (Secretariat support):
Although her primary role is to assist Helena with companies-related business, Dawn also provides advice on the University’s insurance arrangements (when Maxine Brown is absent – see above). 

Jean Uniacke (Administrator):
Jean supports the work of the Research Regulatory Compliance team.

Alison Usher (Governance Officer):
Alison supports the work of the student cases team.

Mark Warner (Solicitor):
Mark has practised as a solicitor in England and in Scotland and has specialised variously in litigation, dispute resolution, professional misconduct and negligence and university research contracts.  Mark now focusses principally on contracts and general commercial work for the University.
